Day 6 (Wednesday 13 August 2025) Touring from Scarborough

Apologies for the fact that the photos appear in a somewhat random order. How/why that has happened I don't know.

The rough schedule had today down as Thornton Dale, Pickering and Whitby.

Unfortunately Pepper had been sick in the night and the forecast was for very hot weather so the young ones stayed at the house and G and E set off to Thornton Dale.  How lovely it was that the hordes of tourists had not yet arrived.

We had a lovely walk round including to the famous Beck Isle thatched cottage. We then made our way to Mathewson's of TVs 'Bangers and Cash' fame. Imagine Graeme's delight when Derek Matthewson appeared and agreed to a photo.  He was so nice and friendly.

We then had a brief stop in Pickering where G visited a model shop, then a lovely drive through the North York Moors to Beck Hole where, unbelievably,  there's a super model shop.

Next stop was to be Whitby, but clearly the world and his/her partner had had the same idea.  There was not a parking space to be found and the streets and cafes were heaving. We had no choice but to abandon Whitby with a promise to return at a quieter time.

We headed back to Scarborough and to Oliver's Mount to admire the view over the town and to have a snack in Oliver's on the Mount where we managed to get a table outside.

We then both thought that a Mr. Whippy type ice cream was needed but from where? We drove to the Esplanade and parked (3 hours' free parking with a disc). We took the cliff lift to the Spa where Howard Beaumont was entertaining the audience.  We eventually found some acceptable ice cream and it was delicious 😋.

It was then back to the house for a yummy fish and chip tea from Wackers, followed by a game of cricket where demon bowler James took a 5-fer by getting us all out.
